You will learn vocabulary in themes related to your life. Most units are about personal descriptions, family and friends, hobbies and interests, school.

The teacher's goal is to give you materials and work so you can learn how to use them.

As you make mistakes, your grammar and speech will improve.

This basically means getting used to the present tense of ordinary verbs, and being familiar with the main past tense (passé composé) and a simple future tense.

This allows you to describe present activities, talk about what you have been doing recently, and also what you are going to do later.

You will need to have a good balance of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the French class.

In French class, we typically build our skills with activities such as:
-educational videos
-worksheets that usually incorporate a puzzle or task for enjoyability

When we are learning, teachers do not look for 100% accuracy, they look for your understanding. Basically, Grade 9 French is all about making the shift from basic knowledge to real world use. It provides you with the tools and exercises you need in order to survive in casual or sudden conversations with the baguette people and to understand more of the French you hear and see around you.

Skill Building

Students develop their thinking and communication skills by recognizing the relationships between French letter patterns and pronunciation, deriving meaning from a variety of texts, and using a range of strategies to support communication.

They learn to seek clarification of meaning and engage in conversations about familiar topics, exchanging ideas and information using complete sentences both orally and in writing.

Additionally, students build their storytelling abilities by narrating stories in French. In terms of personal and social awareness, they explore and share information about connections between Indigenous communities and the French language, as well as examine how Francophone cultures are expressed through creative works.

They also study cultural practices and traditions in various Francophone regions and their role in shaping identity, while describing similarities and differences between their own cultural practices and those of Francophone communities around the world.
